Bengal's potato farmers getting highest price, Minister Becharam Manna claims

Hooghly, 22 August (H.S.) West Bengal's Agriculture Marketing Minister Becharam Manna, while describing the state's potato production as self-sufficient on Friday, said that Bengal farmers are getting the highest price for potatoes compared to other states. He said that potato is being sold at Rs 800 per quintal in the wholesale market of Punjab, while Bengali West Bengal farmers are getting a rate of Rs 1080 to Rs 1340 per quintal.

Minister Manna said that in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the wholesale rate of potato is reaching Rs 850 and Rs 1300 per quintal respectively. The credit for the good price of farmers in Bengal can be given to the arrangement and efficient marketing system.

He also said that so far 41% of the potato has come out of storage in the state, and this figure is expected to reach 55% before Vishwakarma Puja.
