Hyderabad, 22 August (H.S.): On August 22, a bandh was observed across Telangana due to the 'Marwari Go Back' movement, initiated by the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC). Traders actively participated, closing shops and halting business in several districts, including Yadadri, Narayanpet, Jangaon, and Nalgonda. OUJAC chairman Kothapalli Tirupathi Reddy criticized Marwari businessmen for employing deceptive practices that harm local traders. He warned that protests could escalate if the state government did not address these grievances.

The OUJAC accused Marwari businessmen of “looting” Telangana, asserting that their presence undermines local industries. Supporting the bandh, the Vaisya Vikas Vedika and other trade associations emphasized the need for businesses from other states to prioritize local job creation. Telangana Kranti Dal president Sangamreddy Prithviraj urged residents to boycott goods from Gujarati and Rajasthani traders to protect local interests, highlighting the exploitation of community resources.

The movement gained momentum following an incident where a Marwari jeweller attacked a man from a marginalized community over a parking dispute, leading to increased frustrations and demands for justice. Prithviraj was arrested by police during these protests, highlighting the tense atmosphere surrounding the issue. The situation reflects deepening tensions between local traders and outside business interests.
