Hooghly, 22 August (H.S.)

The problem of traffic jam in ward number 11 of Rishra Municipality of Hooghly district had been causing trouble for the people for a long time. Especially during office hours and opening and closing of schools, jams on the main roads had become common. To deal with this situation and provide relief to the local people, BJP councillor Shashi Singh Jha has taken an initiative.

On the call of the councillor, four volunteers in the ward are now taking to the streets and handling the traffic system. These volunteers have started controlling vehicle movement on crowded intersections and main roads.

Local residents said that after the deployment of volunteers, the problem of traffic jam has reduced considerably. Children reaching school on time and employees going to office have also got relief. Many businessmen also said that the reduction in jam is having a positive effect on their business.

Councillor Shashi Singh Jha told Hindusthan Samachar on Friday that there are about 12 schools and two hospitals in our ward. There are dozens of coaching institutes. A large number of people from outside also come and sell fruits and vegetables in our ward. Due to the work of the subway, four connecting roads of the ward are closed. Due to this, a terrible traffic jam was being created and people going to office and school were getting delayed. We repeatedly appealed to the municipality and the police station regarding the problem but got nothing except assurances. After this, I informed the Rishra police station and the municipality and sent volunteers to the field to relieve the people of the ward from the problem of traffic jam.

A woman resident of the ward said that it used to take half an hour to drop the children to school every day, now the road is cleared in five to ten minutes. This is really a good initiative.
