New Delhi, August 22 (HS): Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi will embark on an official visit to Algeria next week, marking his first foreign tour since the successful ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan. The visit follows recent high-level trips to Algeria by President of India and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan, which laid the groundwork for enhanced defence cooperation between the two nations.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Indian Army said General Dwivedi’s visit underscores the growing role of the Army in advancing India’s strategic engagements abroad. Discussions are expected to focus on strengthening military-to-military ties, expanding training exchanges, and deepening capacity-building initiatives.

Algeria operates several platforms familiar to India’s defence ecosystem, positioning New Delhi to share operational expertise, extend maintenance and training support, and foster collaboration in defence technologies.

The Army further noted that the visit will also explore opportunities in defence industrial cooperation, particularly in modernization, logistics, and equipment support. General Dwivedi is expected to reiterate India’s policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism, while exchanging perspectives on regional and global security challenges.

Military officials believe the deliberations will help strengthen interoperability, build trust, and promote practical cooperation between the two armed forces.
