New Delhi, August 21(HS): Hockey India on Thursday unveiled the 20-member Indian women’s hockey squad for the Women’s Asia Cup 2025, to be staged in Hangzhou, China from September 5 to 14. The tournament holds immense significance as the champion will secure a direct berth at the FIH Women’s Hockey World Cup 2026.
India, drawn in Pool B, will lock horns with Japan, Thailand, and Singapore. The team begins its campaign on September 5 against Thailand, followed by a clash with Japan on September 6, and will round off the group stage against Singapore on September 8.
Dynamic midfielder Salima Tete has been entrusted with the captain’s armband, and will marshal a well-balanced squad that blends rich experience with emerging talent. Sharing his outlook, head coach Harendra Singh remarked:
“This squad reflects a strong mix of experience and youth. The players are ready to display aggressive yet disciplined hockey. The Asia Cup is not just a prestigious title but a crucial stepping stone to World Cup qualification.
