Chennai, 21 August (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has come out in strong defense of the Constitutional (130th Amendment) Bill, criticizing the opposition for opposing it. According to the BJP, the bill is aimed at preventing politicians with criminal records from holding public office, thereby ensuring accountability and integrity in governance.

BJP spokesperson A.N.S. Prasad accused the opposition, including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, of shielding corrupt leaders and trying to protect their own interests. He cited the 2G spectrum scam and TASMAC dealings in Tamil Nadu as examples of the opposition's legacy of corruption.

The BJP claims that the bill is a crucial step toward building a corruption-free governance and a developed India by 2047. The party emphasizes that the bill will help strengthen democracy by ensuring that leaders with unimpeachable integrity hold public office.

The opposition, however, has raised concerns about the bill's intentions and implications. The controversy surrounding the bill highlights the ongoing debate about corruption and governance in Indian politics.
