Nagpur, 21 Aug (HS): Despite
several legal provisions and repeated directives issued from time to time, the
menace of stray dogs in Nagpur continues to trouble citizens. Residents are
still forced to face attacks and harassment from stray dogs, raising serious
concerns over public safety.
The Nagpur Bench of
the Bombay High Court has now questioned why no effective action has been taken
so far and why officials responsible for curbing the menace should not face
accountability. The court was hearing a petition highlighting the dangers posed
by the uncontrolled stray dog population.
During the hearing,
the judges observed that the administration has failed to act decisively,
despite the availability of guidelines and mechanisms to control the stray animals.
The court has sought a detailed explanation from the municipal corporation and
the police by September 9.
The petitioner
demanded urgent measures to control the stray dog menace.
