Lucknow, 21 Aug (HS): BSP supremo

Mayawati called the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill a

weakening of democracy and urged the central government to rethink

it. The 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, introduced by the

central government in Parliament yesterday (Wednesday) amid a massive

controversy, obviously looks to be one that undermines democracy in the

country's present political context, according to the former Uttar Pradesh

chief minister, who commented on 'X'. The public fears that ruling parties

would mostly utilize it for personal gain, greed, and hatred. As a result, our

party strongly opposes this Bill. The administration should review it in the

sake of the country's democracy and the Constitution, the post concluded.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah

introduced the Bill in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, which seeks to remove the prime

minister, chief ministers, and other ministers from office if they are detained

on severe charges for 30 days. Opposition lawmakers strongly opposed the Bill,

describing it as against the spirit of the Constitution and

federalism. In his brief reaction to the Opposition's criticism of the

Bills, Shah argued for a stronger stance on moral standards in public life,

stating, We cannot be so shameless that we continue to hold

Constitutional positions while facing serious charges.
