Dhemaji (Assam), 21 August (HS): In a historic judgment, the Dhemaji District and Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced Rintu Sharma to death in connection with the brutal murder of college student Nandita Saikia.

The court had found the accused guilty on Wednesday and today pronounced the death penalty.

It may be recalled that on August 21, 2021, Sharma had murdered Nandita, a student of Moridhal College, in broad daylight. After a prolonged trial spanning four years, the court finally delivered justice to the victim’s family.

Family members said that receiving justice on Nandita’s fourth death anniversary has brought them immense relief.
