Imphal, 21 August (HS): In a series of counter-insurgency and anti-narcotics operations, Security Forces and Manipur Police have apprehended several cadres of proscribed outfits along with drug peddlers from different districts of the state over the last two days.
On August 20, three rebels of the RPF/PLA were arrested from Thoubal Kshetri Leikai under Thoubal Police Station. The arrested have been identified as Angom Premjit Singh @ Manaothoi (33) of Phayeng Ching Khunou, Ningthoujam Urirei Devi (28) of Moreh Ward No. 7, and Lourembam Madona Devi @ Moli (26) of Uripok, all from Imphal West district. Security agencies revealed that they were engaged in extortion activities targeting government schools, colleges, and owners of brick fields and stone crushers in Thoubal area.
During the operation, a Maruti Suzuki Swift VXI, three mobile phones, Aadhaar and PAN cards, an ATM card, ₹4,000 cash and a list of schools where monetary demands were made were seized from their possession.
On the same day, an active cadre of the PREPAK outfit was nabbed from Sawombung area under Lamlai-PS in Imphal East. The cadre was identified as Sarangthem Suresh Singh @ Chinglen @ Bungo (20) of Huikap Makha Leikai. A mobile phone was recovered from him.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police carried out a successful anti-drug operation at Wabagai Lamkhai Thongkha under Kakching PS, arresting three individuals—Thinmai Kaisidindou Liangmei (53), Lunghipuiliu (37) and Nanathongliu (42). From their possession, 91 soap cases containing 1.12 kg (approx.) of heroin powder, a Bolero vehicle, five mobile phones and two Aadhaar cards were seized.
In another counter-insurgency action the same day, Security Forces apprehended two KYKL rebels. Jiten Sana RK @ Nanao (41) of Pangei Lairam Mapal was arrested near Minuthong under Imphal-PS, while Jimson Aheibam (30) of Awangkhunou Sabal Leikai was picked up from his residence under Patsoi-PS. Both were involved in extortion and forcible collection of money from shops, spas and the general public across valley areas.
Additionally, Security Forces detained a rebel from the KCP (MFL) faction—Khoinaijam Robertson Singh @ Khelemba (24) of Sawombung Thongkhong—from Taothong Khunou near Khudeiband Lampak. He was allegedly engaged in multiple unlawful activities including extortion, abduction for ransom and intimidation-based mediation in crime-related disputes, particularly concerning women.
Authorities stated that further investigations are underway to trace the wider network of insurgency and drug syndicates in the state.
