Hooghly, 21 August (H.S.) The unusual death of a bank employee in Chandannagar on Wednesday morning has triggered shock and sensation in the area. The deceased has been identified as Soumen Dey (39), working as a clerk in a government bank branch located at Chuchura Khadina More area.

According to police sources, Soumen was at home after having breakfast with his wife in the morning. His wife had gone out for some work. After some time, suddenly hearing a loud sound in the housing complex, the neighbors reached the spot and saw that Soumen's body was lying on the ground. The police took him to Chandannagar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead. Initial suspicion is that Soumen committed suicide by jumping from the balcony of the eighth floor flat.

Soumen lived with his wife in a multi-storey house located at Chandannagar Rather Road after his second marriage. His ancestral home is in Vaidyapota area of Chandannagar. According to family sources, he had married for the second time about two years after divorcing his first wife and bought this flat only after that.

Local CPI(M) councillor Ashok Ganguly also reached the spot as soon as the incident was reported. He said that according to preliminary information, Soumen jumped from the lobby of the northern part of the flat.

Shobhan Sheel, a relative of the deceased, said that the family was first informed about the accident. Later, when they reached the hospital, it was found that Soumen had fallen from above.

The police have sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation into the matter.
