Varanasi, 21 Aug (HS): The police
has busted an interstate cyber gang running a fake call center in the name of
investment and trading in the stock market in Varanasi district of Uttar
Pradesh. A total of 26 accused, including the kingpin of the gang, have been
arrested. DCP Crime Sarvanan T and ADCP Crime Neetu Kadyan jointly said that a
fake call center was being operated in a multi-storey building located near
Sigra intersection of the district. On this information, a joint police team of
Cyber Cell, Cyber Thana, Laxmi and Sigra police station raided the place
and 26 accused were arrested from the spot. Prominent among the arrested
accused are Krishna Kumar, resident of Bharatpur, Korea (Chhattisgarh),
Dhananjay Chauhan, resident of Bhairopur Khanpur Ghazipur, Divyashu Upadhyay,
resident of Ganeshpur Shivpur Varanasi, Chandan Pandey, resident of Mohania
Kaimur (Bihar) and Prakhar Dubey, resident of Dubeypur Mafi Chakia (Chandauli)
along with 21 other interstate cyber fraudsters have been arrested.
Officials said that the fake call
center has also been seized. During interrogation, the interstate cyber
fraudsters involved in the gang told that they used to call people across the
country and lure them into investing and promising huge profits in the stock
market. People were made to invest a large amount and initially, partial
profits were shown from their money. After some time, their entire money was
usurped on the pretext of loss in the market. In some cases, attempts were also
made to intimidate them.
It is noteworthy that three months
ago, the Delhi team of CBI had also exposed a large network of a similar
international cyber fraud gang in Varanasi. The police team is now
investigating the network, bank accounts and digital transactions of the
accused so that the number of victims and the total amount defrauded can be
ascertained.
