West Bengal, 21 August (H.S.) An elderly woman suffering from mental depression for a long time in Parnashri area committed suicide by setting herself on fire in front of her sick husband on Wednesday night. The husband tried to save his wife and with the help of neighbours, he took her to the hospital where doctors declared her dead.

The police have found a suicide note from the room in which the woman has written the pain of her loneliness. The deceased woman's husband Mrinal Kanti Pal has been ill for a long time and their son lives abroad. The husband and wife were living alone in the house in Parnashri.

It is learnt that the woman suffering from mental depression suddenly closed the door of the room and set herself on fire. Seeing his wife in flames, the husband somehow extinguished the fire, but he could not save her. The police have taken the body into custody and sent it for post-mortem and initiated an investigation into the matter.
