Sivasagar (Assam), 21 August (HS): In a dramatic chase late Wednesday night, a vehicle used by cattle thieves met with an accident in the Kalgaon area of Ghaleki under Nazira subdivision.
According to police, the thieves were transporting stolen cattle when Ghaleki police intercepted them. On spotting the police, the miscreants sped away recklessly and their vehicle rammed into two horses on the highway before crashing into a wall near a mosque at Kalgaon.
One horse killed instantly, while the other sustained serious injuries. Police rescued five cows from the abandoned vehicle, which had no number plate. The culprits, however, managed to flee in another vehicle, leaving the damaged one behind.
A mobile phone, suspected to have been used in the cattle theft, was recovered from the vehicle. The entire incident was caught on CCTV cameras. Police have launched an investigation to trace the absconding thieves. ------------
