New Delhi, August 21(HS): The countdown has begun for Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2025, with just 11 days remaining until the September 1 deadline for filing claims and objections to the draft electoral roll.
Parties Push Hard
Political parties have gone all out, filing 1.6 lakh claims on behalf of voters. The Rashtriya Janata Dal (47,506), BJP (53,338), and JD(U) (36,550) dominate the submissions, while the Congress and CPI(ML) also contributed tens of thousands of entries. None of these claims have been processed yet, pending the statutory notice period.
Young Voters in the Spotlight
A record surge is being seen among the youth: 2,28,793 new voters aged 18+ have registered so far using Form 6. Election authorities called it “a strong sign of youth engagement in democracy.”
Citizen Involvement
Beyond political push, 70,895 individuals have filed their own claims and objections, with 3,449 already resolved. This shows growing voter awareness to ensure accuracy in rolls, officials said.
Safeguards Against Arbitrary Action
Election officers have stressed that no voter’s name will be deleted without due process. Every deletion requires a formal speaking order, an inquiry, and fair opportunity for hearing. Lists of excluded names with reasons have already been placed online on the CEO Bihar and DEO websites, searchable via EPIC number.
The Road Ahead
Officials reminded citizens that both inclusions (Form 6) and exclusions (Form 7) must be filed by September 1, 2025. BLAs appointed by the 12 recognized parties can also collect and file claims on behalf of voters. Objections from non-electors of a constituency are valid too, provided they come with statutory declarations.
