North Dinajpur, 21 August (H.S.): In view of the upcoming assembly elections, North Dinajpur district administration has set a target to complete the work of providing loans to Self Help Groups within December 2025. With the start of the election process, development work gets hampered and the SHG-loan disbursal process also often comes to a halt. For this reason, the credit linkage process is being expedited to speed up the system of lending to SHGs by December this year.
In this financial year 2025–26, a target has been set to provide a total loan of ₹1,183 crore to SHGs through the District Rural Development Institute. So far, about 40% of this target has been achieved, while the remaining 60% loan disbursal is planned to be completed by December 2025.
District Rural Development Institute Project Officer Hemant Seuyar said that in the last financial year, this district was ranked first in the state in terms of credit linkage. This year also, efforts are being made to repeat this success and provide adequate loans to SHGs.
In this sequence, recently a meeting of representatives of SHGs and related coordinating departments was also held. In this meeting, the administration gave clear instructions to everyone to carry forward the work within the target time frame.
