Tamulpur (Assam), 21 August (HS): After cases of African Swine Fever (ASF) were detected in Auguri (Maharipara) and Karipara (Bhogpur) villages of Tamulpur district, the district administration has taken strict measures.
District Commissioner and District Magistrate Pankaj Chakravorty, invoking Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, issued an order directing culling of all pigs within a one-kilometre radius of the affected villages. The step was taken based on the recommendation of the Sub-Divisional Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department.
The order prohibits transportation of pigs and pig-related products from the affected villages. Selling pork in public places and markets has been banned, and dumping of pig carcasses in open areas, dustbins, rivers, or ponds has been strictly forbidden.
The District Magistrate urged villagers to remain alert and immediately inform the veterinary department or district administration if new ASF cases emerge.
To ensure the safety of veterinary officials and staff engaged in culling operations, directives have been issued to the Superintendent of Police. Meanwhile, the Public Health Engineering Department has been instructed to provide sufficient lime and bleaching powder for sanitisation and infection control in the affected areas.
