Sribhumi (Assam), 20 August (HS): Incidents of theft continue to trouble the under-construction medical college campus in Ramkrishnanagar, Sribhumi district. Police have launched an investigation into the recurring thefts.

The medical college, being built by KMV Project Limited of Hyderabad, is the first in Sribhumi district and is slated for completion by 2027. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma had laid its foundation stone last year.

However, locals report that theft of construction materials, including TMT bars and other valuable items, has become a near-daily occurrence. Recently, residents spotted stolen materials lying by the roadside and informed the construction company, after which police seized the items and began inquiries.

Questions are being raised about how such thefts are happening regularly despite the presence of workers on-site round the clock. Locals fear these incidents may delay the much-awaited project.

The medical college project had earlier faced political wrangling over its location, with debates between Patharkandi and Ramkrishnanagar. Following public protests, the government finalized Ramkrishnanagar as the site and commenced construction.
