Shillong, 20 August (HS): In a major success against drug trafficking, police in East Jaintia Hills, along with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, seized a large consignment of narcotics from a Meghalaya Transport night super bus in Lumchung during a late-night operation.
According to the East Jaintia Hills district police, the bus was heading from Silchar to Shillong when it was intercepted. A search led to the recovery of 10.35 kilograms of cannabis, 2,736 tramadol hydrochloride capsules, and 6,000 nitrazepam tablets, along with two mobile phones. Superintendent of Police Vikas Kumar said the seized narcotics are valued at around ₹2 million in the market.
The arrested traffickers have been identified as Amal Nath, a resident of Sundari Third Block in Katigorah Assembly constituency of Cachar district, Assam and Radhika Ranjan Das, a resident of Bamunchhora village in Kamalpur, Tripura. Police suspect that both are linked to a major criminal syndicate operating in the Northeast.
Both accused are under intensive interrogation and further investigation is underway.
