Dhubri (Assam), 20 August (HS): In Golakganj area of Dhubri district, close to the India-Bangladesh border, two individuals have received a threatening voice message allegedly from the Bangladeshi organization Jamaat-e-Islami. The threat was sent to Amulya Rai, General Secretary of BJP's Golakganj division and Sudhir Sarkar, president of Lokhimari block of Seemaant Chetna Manch. Both have lodged a police complaint regarding the matter.
A few days earlier, Golakganj police had raided the residence of an army soldier based on intelligence input. During the raid, police seized two packets of counterfeit ₹500 notes, three Bangladeshi SIM cards, two Bangladesh flags, and 28 letters packed separately. Police arrested soldier Ali Hussain, his brother Imran Ali and two teachers from the same village—Jahir Ali and Mahabbat Ali. Following interrogations, only Imaan Ali was remanded to jail, while the others were released.
Police sources suspect that the threatening message could be linked to the counterfeit currency racket. Rai and Sarkar filed their complaint last night against a Bangladeshi number (880-1719071927). However, police have not issued any official statement so far and said that investigation is underway.
