Bhubaneswar, 20 August (H.S.): Jagatsinghpur Police on Wednesday arrested suspended Sub-Inspector (SI) Amit Padhi, who had been absconding for the past four months in connection with the alleged marriage of a minor girl and subjecting her to physical and mental abuse.

A four-member special team nabbed Padhi from outside Odisha and he will be brought to Jagatsinghpur later today, police officials confirmed.

Padhi, a native of Balasore, was serving as a Sub-Inspector in Puri when the incident came to light. Investigations revealed that he had come into contact with the minor girl through social media and subsequently married her. He allegedly subjected her to severe physical and mental harassment before eventually driving her out of the house.

Following the allegations, the Puri Superintendent of Police suspended Padhi. However, he remained absconding for four months before being tracked down by the special team.

Police sources said the accused will be produced in court after completion of necessary formalities. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.
