Imphal, 20 August (HS): Security forces in Manipur have arrested a self-styled corporal of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Federal League) [KCP (MFL)] in connection with extortion activities.

The individual, identified as 26-year-old Lourembam Suraj Singh alias Lamjingba, hails from Wangkhei Angom Leikai under the jurisdiction of Porompat Police Station. He was picked up during a joint operation conducted in Imphal East district.

Officials revealed that Singh had been demanding money from locals in the valley region, causing distress among residents. A mobile handset and an Aadhaar card were seized from him at the time of arrest.

Authorities have launched a probe to uncover the wider network of the proscribed outfit’s extortion racket and Singh’s role within it.
