New Delhi, August 20 (HS): National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominee for the Vice Presidential election, C.P. Radhakrishnan, officially filed his nomination papers on Wednesday in the presence of top leaders from the ruling alliance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, along with leaders of allied parties, were present during the filing.
Radhakrishnan submitted four sets of nomination papers, with Prime Minister Modi heading the first set of proposers, underlining the NDA’s strong backing for his candidacy.
A seasoned BJP leader and respected parliamentarian from Tamil Nadu, Radhakrishnan has had a distinguished political career spanning decades. Known for his organizational skills and clean image, he has previously served as a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore and as BJP’s state president in Tamil Nadu. His nomination is being seen as a move to further consolidate the NDA’s outreach in the southern states, while also projecting a candidate with administrative experience and unblemished record.
With the NDA’s numerical advantage in both Houses, his election as the country’s next Vice President is widely anticipated.
