Hooghly, 20 August (H.S.) A man in Konnagar's Masterpada area under Uttarpara police station in Hooghly district surrendered at the police station on Wednesday morning after killing his wife. According to police sources, fed up with domestic discord, the husband strangled his wife to death. The police have arrested the accused.
According to police sources, the accused's name is Ashok Chattopadhyay (55). He often quarreled with his wife Sabita Chattopadhyay (59). On Tuesday night, there was a heated argument between the duo and during this, Ashok strangled his wife to death.
After the murder, on Wednesday morning, the accused locked the door of the house and went out. He first reached his sister's house and greeted her while confessing to the murder. After that, he informed a relative about the incident over the phone and went straight to the police station and surrendered.
The police reached Ashok's house and recovered Sabita's dead body. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Locals said that there were frequent quarrels between the husband and wife. On Tuesday night too, a heated argument was heard between the duo.
At present, the police have arrested the accused and initiated an investigation into the matter.
