Guwahati (Assam), 20 August (HS): A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of a cyclist under the Gharchuk flyover in Guwahati, Gorchuk PS OC confirmed on Wednesday.
Police said the victim, identified as Parameshwar Rai, a resident of Bihar, killed on the spot after being struck by a speeding truck (registration no. AS-01GC-8973). Following the collision, the truck driver attempted to flee, but traffic police chased down the vehicle and apprehended the driver.
The incident triggered a crowd gathering at the accident site, causing a temporary traffic jam. The body of the deceased has been sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway, police confirmed.
