The court has announced that the final quantum of punishment will be pronounced on August 21.

The gruesome incident took place on August 21, 2021, in the heart of Dhemaji town. Nandita Saikia, a first-year undergraduate student of Moridhal College and a resident of Navakatharbari village in Dhakuakhana, was brutally attacked. She succumbed to her injuries after battling for life for five days in hospital.

The accused, Rintu Sharma, a grade-IV employee of Moridhal College, was identified as the perpetrator of the crime. Following the attack, a case was registered at Dhemaji Sadar Police Station.
