New Delhi, August 20 (HS): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday described the attack on her during a public hearing as a cowardly attempt to weaken her commitment to serving the people of the city.
In a post on X, she wrote, “This morning’s attack during the Jan Sunwai was not merely directed at me, but at our collective resolve to work for Delhi’s welfare and public good. Such cowardly attempts cannot shake my spirit.”
The Chief Minister said she was initially shaken by the incident but is now recovering well. “I urge my well-wishers not to worry or rush to meet me. Very soon, you will see me back at work, among you all.”
Rekha Gupta added that far from deterring her, the incident has reinforced her determination. “No attack can ever break my courage or my pledge of public service. I will return with even greater energy and commitment. Our Jan Sunwai sessions and efforts to resolve people’s grievances will continue with the same seriousness and dedication as before. Your trust and support remain my biggest strength.”
The attack took place Wednesday at the Jan Seva Kendra on Raj Niwas Road, where a man allegedly assaulted the Chief Minister during the public hearing. Police swiftly took the accused into custody. He has been identified as Rajesh Bhai Khimji Bhai Sakariya, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the accused has a record of multiple criminal cases against him. Police are currently interrogating him further.
