Ghaziabad, 20 Aug (HS): Sahibabad

police station in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh has arrested a criminal

active in Delhi-NCR for snatching mobile phones during an encounter. During the

encounter, the criminal was shot by the police. He has been admitted to the

hospital in an injured condition. 01 illegal pistol, 01 empty cartridge, 01

live cartridge, 01 snatched mobile phone and 01 stolen motorcycle have been

recovered from his possession. DCP (Hindnpar) Nimish Dashrath Patil said that

on Wednesday morning, Sahibabad police station was checking the road coming

from City Forest towards Nag Dwar Square to prevent robbery and snatching

incidents. During the checking, the police signaled two suspicious persons

coming on a motorcycle to stop. They did not stop on the signal of the police

team and started running. When the police team chased them, the two persons on

the motorcycle, seeing themselves surrounded, opened fire on the police team

from a distance with the intention to kill them.

The police also fired in

retaliation. One of the accused got shot in his leg. The accused fell down

after getting injured and the other accused saw the opportunity and ran away.

The police arrested a person named Aman, resident of 30 Fita Road, Gali No. 11,

Nandgram, Police Station Nandgram from the spot. On interrogating the arrested

accused, it came to light that the accused had stolen the recovered motorcycle

from Delhi. Using this stolen motorcycle, he and his friend Shivam, resident of

Delhi, do mobile phone snatching. They sell the stolen items to unknown people

on the road. Both of them admitted to snatching mobile phones from many people

in the recent past.
