Guwahati, 19 August (HS): On the occasion of World Photography Day, the Assam Photojournalists’ Association organized a special event at the Guwahati Press Club. Noted litterateur and storyteller Dr. Arupa Patangia Kalita, addressing the gathering, said, “Photography can achieve what sometimes even a book cannot. A picture captures a historic moment forever.”
She recalled the works of renowned photographer Roger Fenton’s Valley of the Shadow of Death and India’s legendary photographer Raghu Rai, stressing the vital role of photojournalism in shaping society. Dr. Kalita urged photojournalists to face upcoming challenges with courage and continue working toward building a better society.
On this occasion, senior photojournalist from Tezpur, Samir Kar, was felicitated by the association. He was honored with a Gamochha, Cheleng, memento, certificate of recognition and a cash award of ₹10,000. While receiving the honor, Kar became emotional and remembered his late father.
The program was attended by senior editors from various newspapers and media organizations including Naresh Kalita (Editor, Niyomiya Barta), Achyut Kumar Patwari (Associate Editor, Asomiya Pratidin), Sanjeev Phukan (Editor, Dainik Janambhumi), Biswajit Das (Chief Editor, Asomiya Khabar), Ravi Shankar Ravi (Editor, Dainik Purvoday) and Pranay Bordoloi (Editor-in-Chief, Pratham Khabar).
Also present were association secretary Reb Kumar Bora, treasurer Divya Jyoti Das Rabha and senior photojournalists Utpal Baruah, Rituraj Konwar, Rajeev Bhattacharya, Abdul Sajid, along with other members.
