Kolkata, 19 August (H.S.): West Bengal Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari has accused the ruling Trinamool Congress government of pushing the state’s education system to the brink of collapse due to negligence and political interests. He has urged Governor C. V. Ananda Bose to intervene immediately to address the crisis.
Adhikari said that a 15-member Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delegation, led by him, met the Governor at Raj Bhavan on Monday and submitted a memorandum. The memorandum demanded urgent action to protect the state’s education system and safeguard the future of students.
According to the memorandum, more than three months have passed since the Higher Secondary examination results were announced, but the admission process in government colleges has not yet begun. Similarly, the results of the Joint Entrance Examination in the state have also not been declared, while in other states not only admissions have been completed but classes have already started. “This is an unprecedented situation in the history of independent India,” Adhikari said, adding that nearly 500,000 students’ futures are hanging in the balance.
The BJP leader alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is prioritizing vote-bank politics and appeasement over the future of children. The memorandum further accused the state government of attempting to include 76 Muslim communities in the OBC category despite not being part of the national backward class list.
Adhikari also claimed that delaying admissions in government institutions is allowing private institutions to flourish. “The Chief Minister is moving towards complete privatization of the education sector, handing over the future of students to profit-driven institutions,” he alleged.
The Nandigram MLA appealed to the people of West Bengal to raise their voices against this injustice. “This fight is for the coming generations. Every conscious citizen must stand up to protect the future of more than five lakh students in Bengal,” he urged.
