Guwahati, 19 August (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday inaugurated two key facilities — the TrueBeam Linear Accelerator (Linac) Radiotherapy Machine and the E-Office Facility — at Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI), Guwahati, a premier cancer care centre under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India.

The newly installed Linear Accelerator Radiotherapy Machine is expected to significantly enhance cancer treatment in the Northeast by offering highly precise and targeted radiation therapy. This advanced technology will improve treatment outcomes while reducing side effects.

Simultaneously, the E-Office Facility will modernize office management at BBCI by streamlining workflow, ensuring transparency, and enhancing administrative efficiency — ultimately benefitting patients and stakeholders.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya said the installation of the new radiotherapy machine would provide advanced treatment options for cancer patients, while the E-Office reflects the institute’s commitment to transparency and efficiency. He stressed that healthcare today is evolving with precision medicine, AI-based diagnostics and personalized therapy and termed the new facility a brilliant example of cutting-edge radiation therapy bringing new hope to cancer patients in the Northeast.

The Governor also lauded BBCI’s role in research and education, saying it reflects India’s commitment to building a knowledge-driven and service-oriented healthcare system aligned with the vision of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Acharya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in transforming healthcare nationwide through initiatives like Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi Kendras, National Digital Health Mission, Mobile Medical Units and campaigns like TB Mukt Bharat and Nasha Mukt Bharat, aimed at ensuring inclusive health coverage and wellness for all.

The event was attended by several dignitaries including Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Borah, Vice Chancellor of Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences; Dr. BB Borthakur, Director of BBCI; Dr. Anup Kumar Barman, Director of Medical Education, Assam; Prof. Ashok Puranik, Executive Director of AIIMS Guwahati; and Dr. Basanta Kr Baishya, Principal of Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital among others.
