Premier League: Liverpool Triumphs Over Bournemouth 4-2 in Emotional Season Opener

Liverpool, August 16 (HS): Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool began their title defense with a thrilling 4-2 victory against Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday. The match carried deep emotional significance as it was the first home game since the tragic passing of forward Diogo Jota in July.

New signing Hugo Ekitike marked his debut with a stunning goal in the 37th minute to give Liverpool the lead, which was soon doubled when Cody Gakpo scored in the 49th minute, putting the hosts comfortably ahead 2-0.

Bournemouth fought back resiliently. Antony Semenyo, who faced racial abuse earlier in the match that led to a temporary halt in play, powered in two vital goals in the 64th and 76th minutes to level the score at 2-2, shaking Liverpool’s defense.

However, Liverpool sealed the win with late-game heroics. Substitute Federico Chiesa found the net in the 88th minute to restore Liverpool’s advantage, before Mohamed Salah cemented the victory with a goal in injury time, securing all three points for the defending champions.

The result marks a powerful and heartfelt start to Liverpool’s campaign in the Premier League this season.
