New Delhi, August 15(HS):

India’s capital markets are taking a patriotic breather today, as the nation marks Independence Day with a market-wide closure. Both the stock exchanges and commodity trading platforms have suspended all activity, including both morning and evening sessions — a rare occurrence ensuring a complete pause in financial dealings.

Normal trading across all segments will resume on Monday, August 18.

The Bombay Stock Exchange’s holiday schedule signals a busy festive season ahead for market closures:

-August 27 (Ganesh Chaturthi): Markets closed.

-October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti & Dussehra): No trading.

-October 21 (Diwali/Laxmi Pujan): Exchanges to remain shut, except for the auspicious Muhurat Trading window.

-October 22 (Bali Pratipada): Markets closed.

-November 5 (Guru Nanak Jayanti): Trading holiday.

-December 25 (Christmas): Markets shut.

Additionally, the currency derivatives segment will join the holiday spirit with a break on September 5 for Eid-e-Milad.

With both equities and commodities on pause, investors can use this holiday to recalibrate strategies, as global cues and festive sentiment are likely to drive brisk action when markets reopen next week.
