New Delhi, August 15(HS): Indian athlete Ankita Dhyani delivered a stunning performance on Thursday at the Jerusalem Grand Slam tournament, part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event, by breaking the national record and clinching gold in the women’s 2000m steeplechase.
The 23-year-old clocked an impressive 6:13.92, surpassing the previous national record held by Asian Games gold medalist Parul Chaudhary, who had set 6:14.38. Ankita outpaced fierce competition, including Israel’s Adva Cohen (6:15.20), who took silver, and Denmark’s Juliane Hvid (6:17.80), who finished third.
This victory adds to Ankita’s growing list of achievements. Last month, she secured a silver medal in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the World University Games in Germany. Earlier this year, she finished fifth in the 3000m steeplechase at the Asian Athletics Championship in Batumi, South Korea, where Parul Chaudhary earned silver. Notably, in 2023, Ankita also claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 5000m event.
Ankita’s record-breaking run in Jerusalem signals her rising prominence on the international athletics stage and bodes well for her future campaigns.
