New Delhi, August 13(HS): Indian middle- and long-distance runner Gulveer Singh delivered another stellar performance, breaking his own national record in the men’s 3000 metres at the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest on Tuesday.

Clocking an impressive 7 minutes 34.49 seconds, the 27-year-old finished fifth in a fiercely competitive field. The race was won by Kenya’s Matthew Kipsang, who crossed the line in 7 minutes 33.23 seconds.

Singh’s previous best — and the former national record — stood at 7:38.26, achieved earlier this year in February at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational.

Already a national record holder in both the 5000m and 10,000m events, Singh’s recent form has been nothing short of exceptional. Just last month, he claimed double gold at the Asian Athletics Championships in both these distances.

Earlier in February, Singh clocked 12:59.77 in the 5000m at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center, comfortably surpassing the 13:01.00 qualification mark for the upcoming World Championships in Tokyo.

With this latest achievement, Gulveer Singh has further cemented his position as one of India’s brightest hopes in distance running, continuing his remarkable upward trajectory on the international stage.
