West Bengal CM calls another cabinet meeting next week, speculations rife

Kolkata, 12 August (H.S.) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took several decisions in the cabinet meeting on Monday and on Tuesday morning Chief Secretary Manoj Pant issued a notification stating the timing of the next cabinet meeting. The cabinet meeting has been called at Nabanna on next Monday, August 18. Usually there is a gap of 10 days or two weeks between one cabinet meeting and the next. But after the cabinet meeting on Monday, according to sources at Nabanna, preparations began for holding the next cabinet meeting at Nabanna. And on Tuesday morning a notification was issued stating the date and time of the cabinet meeting. The new notification states that the cabinet meeting will be held at Nabanna at 4 pm on Monday. The hasty calling of the cabinet meeting by the Chief Minister after a gap of a week has created curiosity among the top officials at Nabanna.

A source in Nabanna said that the conflict between the state government and the Election Commission is growing over the SIR of the voter list, as well as allegations that Bengali migrant workers are being harassed and attacked for speaking Bengali in the BJP-ruled state. It is believed that the Chief Minister may take several decisions on these issues in the next cabinet meeting. Therefore, without any delay, a cabinet meeting has been called next Monday, i.e. a week after the meeting.
