Nadia, 12 August (H.S.): Three teenage girls drowned in a pond while bathing on Tuesday in old Dighirpar area under Tahirpur police station in Nadia district. Hearing their screams, people from nearby areas rushed to the spot and jumped into the water to rescue them. Local residents immediately rushed them to Ranaghat sub-divisional hospital.

But, two of them could not be saved. They succumbed during treatment. 10-year-old Rashi Sarkar and 11-year-old Jyoti Mandal of Dighirpar died. At the same time, 15-year-old Devika Sarkar is still battling death in Ranaghat hospital. The police have initiated an investigation into the matter.
