New Delhi, August 12(HS): In a significant boost to India’s international air connectivity, budget carrier IndiGo has announced the launch of two new direct flight services linking Mumbai with key Central Asian cities — Tashkent in Uzbekistan and Almaty in Kazakhstan — beginning early September.
According to the airline, the Mumbai–Tashkent service will take off on September 1, followed by the Mumbai–Almaty route on September 2, with both operating four times a week. The expansion comes just days after IndiGo inaugurated its Mumbai–Tbilisi (Georgia) service on August 2, further solidifying Mumbai’s position as a growing international aviation hub.
Vinay Malhotra, Head of Global Sales at IndiGo, said the move builds on the airline’s successful operations from New Delhi to the same destinations. “We are delighted to now connect Mumbai directly with Tashkent and Almaty. These routes, along with our recent launches to Manchester and Amsterdam, underline our commitment to offering seamless global connectivity from India’s financial capital,” he said.
Malhotra added that the new flights will enhance travel options for both leisure and business passengers, with customers able to conveniently book tickets through IndiGo’s official website (www.goIndiGo.in) and mobile app.
IndiGo has been strengthening its Central Asian footprint since 2023, when it introduced non-stop flights from Delhi to Tashkent, Almaty, and Tbilisi. The latest expansion aligns with the airline’s strategy to deepen its presence in high-growth markets while reinforcing Mumbai’s status as a gateway for international travel.
The announcement is a timely boost for travellers seeking affordable and direct access to Central Asia’s historical, cultural, and commercial hubs, offering a broader spectrum of holiday and business travel opportunities.
