New Delhi, August 12(HS): In an intensified security build-up ahead of Independence Day celebrations, Northern Railway has announced a four-day temporary suspension of all parcel services at major railway stations in the Delhi region from August 12 to August 15.

The decision, aimed at ensuring foolproof arrangements during high-profile events on August 15, will apply to New Delhi, Delhi Junction, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal, and Delhi Sarai Rohilla stations, Northern Railway’s Chief Public Relations Officer Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay confirmed on Tuesday.

Under the directive, no loading or unloading of parcels will be permitted through leased SLR (Seating-cum-Luggage Rake) or VP (Parcel Van) coaches on trains passing through or halting at these stations. Similarly, no parcel packing or handling activities will be allowed at parcel depots or on platforms during the restriction period.

While passengers will still be allowed to carry personal baggage, the carriage of newspapers and magazines will be permitted only after fulfillment of all commercial formalities in line with railway regulations.

Railway officials clarified that the embargo extends not only to Delhi-based parcel operations but also to trains originating from or passing through other divisions if they load or unload parcels at the affected Delhi terminals
