Kolkata, 12 August (H.S.). In a significant organisational push ahead of next year’s crucial West Bengal Assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has completed the formation of booth committees at most polling stations across the state.
According to the state BJP leadership, West Bengal has a total of 81,000 polling stations, of which committees have been formed at 65,000. However, verification is still pending at 15,000 booths, which the party plans to complete soon. Each booth committee will consist of a president and two associates. Special training sessions for the new committee members will be conducted from August 16 to 22, during which the verification process for the remaining booths is also expected to be completed.
A senior BJP functionary admitted that work remains incomplete in minority-dominated areas and in regions where violence by ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers has hindered the process.
The state BJP has also launched a digital survey to assess organisational strength at the booth and district levels. Party insiders said the survey would focus primarily on booth-level verification to ensure that every committee member is a registered voter of the same booth.
Earlier, BJP leaders had conducted a physical survey across various districts to evaluate the ground-level organisational status. The digital survey is aimed at addressing the gaps identified during the physical survey, with the party confident that the process will help strengthen and streamline its booth-level network ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls.
