Kolkata, 11 August (H.S.) Our backs are against the wall. Surrounded by allegations of corruption, unemployment and Muslim appeasement, Mamata Banerjee now has only one recourse - fabricating stories of atrocities on Bengalis. But this too is not achieving anything, because the Hindu people of West Bengal know the condition of their relatives and friends with a phone call and come to know that they are safe. Former governor Tathagata Roy made this comment on social media site X on Monday.
He wrote, Indian Bengali Muslims will have some such tendency, because there is very little difference between them and Bangladeshi infiltrators. There is no use in telling stories of atrocities on Muslims, because Mamata will definitely get their votes. Rather, they may also get angry that the almighty Mamata is not able to do anything. That is why I had advised her to get these infiltrators caught. In his post, Tathagata Roy also mentioned that former Bangladesh President Ziaur Rahman and Prime Minister Khaleda Zia had declared, “We are not Bengalis, we are Bangladeshis. Bengalis should live across the border.” After this, he quipped that now the Hindu (nominal) Maulanas-sword bearers of India are trying to show that they know more about the ‘Bangla identity’ than them.
In another post, Tathagata Roy questioned whether the majority Hindus of the West should treat the minority Muslims here in the same way as the majority Muslims of Bangladesh are treating the minority Hindus there. He asked, “I want a simple answer to a simple question. The way the majority Muslims treated the minority Hindus in East Bengal, the same should be treated by the majority Hindus with the minority Muslims in West Bengal! Right or wrong?”
