New Delhi, August 11 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in a tragic road accident in Pune, Maharashtra, and announced immediate financial assistance to the victims’ families from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
In an official message posted by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on social media platform X, Modi conveyed heartfelt condolences to those grieving the loss of loved ones and wished a speedy recovery for those injured. “Saddened by the loss of lives due to an accident in Pune, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in the mishap. May the injured recover soon,” the PM wrote.
As part of the relief measures, the Prime Minister sanctioned an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for each person injured. The aid will be disbursed directly from the PMNRF to ensure prompt support to those affected.
On August 11, 2025, a tragic road accident occurred in Pune district, Maharashtra, resulting in the deaths of seven people and injuries to several others. The incident involved a pickup van carrying mostly women devotees from Papalwadi village who were traveling to the Kundeshwar Temple in Khed tehsil for the Shravan Monday occasion.
According to police reports, the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a slope on a hilly terrain. The van slipped off the road, falling approximately 25 to 30 feet down a steep embankment before overturning multiple times. The accident happened near a sharp bend, and the victims suffered severe injuries as a result. Among the deceased were mostly women; the injured were rushed to local hospitals for treatment, with many still under medical care.
Local authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, focusing on vehicle control and road conditions. The Deputy Commissioner of Police for Pimpri-Chinchwad, Shivaji Pawar, confirmed the details and stated that efforts are ongoing to identify all victims and assist the injured.
