Nagpur, 11
Aug (HS): A tragic accident on the Nagpur–Jabalpur National Highway has left
the city shocked—not just by the loss of life, but by the disturbing lack of
humanity shown by passersby. On Sunday evening near Morfata, a 31-year-old
woman was killed instantly after a speeding truck ran her over.
Her husband,
unable to get help despite repeated pleas, tied her body to his motorcycle and
began the journey home. The deceased Gyarasi Amit Yadav, originally from
Karanpur in Seoni district in Madhya Pradesh, had been living in Lonara, near
Koradi in Nagpur district with her husband. The couple was on their way to
Karanpur on a motorcycle to celebrate Raksha Bandhan when an Eicher truck hit
them near Mor Diversion, under Maharashtra’s Deolapar Police Station. Gyarasi
died on the spot.
The traffic
on the highway was steady due to heavy rains. But none stopped to help Amit. He
finally tied Gyarasi’s body to his motorcycle and proceeded towards Koradi.
Highway police were alerted and attempted to
intercept him. Overwhelmed and frightened, he did not stop until officers
finally blocked his path. The police took custody of the body and sent it for
post-mortem at Mayo Hospital in Nagpur.
Koradi
Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Shendkar confirmed that the investigation will now
be handled by Deolapar Police.
