Bargarh Minor Girl Succumbs to Burn Injuries While Undergoing Treatment

Bhubaneswar, 11 August (H.S.): A minor girl who allegedly set herself on fire on Monday morning in Phiringimal village, within the Gaisilat police station limits of Bargarh district, has died from her injuries while receiving treatment in Burla.

The incident occurred earlier that day when the girl was discovered unconscious in a football field in the village, with her body reportedly severely burned. A petrol bottle and a matchbox were recovered from the scene.

Bolangir SP Rishikesh D. Khilari stated, “The doctor has just declared her dead. Her family has reported that she self-immolated, and based on this, we have initiated an unnatural death (UD) case. We are currently conducting a post-mortem and investigating the circumstances surrounding her death. We have also seized a video she recorded before her death. The police are exploring all angles at this time.”

IGP (Northern Range) Himanshu Lal added, “The girl had been living here for the past month and was scheduled to return to her hostel either today or tomorrow. We are investigating several aspects, including events that occurred at her home earlier today and the potential reasons behind this tragedy.”

It remains unclear whether she set herself on fire or was ignited by someone else, but local reports indicate that she sustained severe burn injuries from self-immolation.
