Bhubaneswar, 11 August (H.S.): Babita Patra formally assumed charge as the Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR) on Monday. Upon taking office, Patra emphasized the Commission’s commitment to ensuring the safety, welfare, and holistic development of children across the state.

Speaking to the media, Patra stated, “We will operate in alignment with the directives of the Chief Minister. The protection and well-being of children will remain our topmost priority. Our efforts will focus on advancing children’s development across education, healthcare, and social sectors.”

Acknowledging past incidents of crimes against children in Odisha, she informed that structured roadmaps are being prepared to address those issues effectively. Patra also highlighted the importance of interdepartmental coordination, noting that discussions would be held with Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, who also oversees the concerned department, to strategize on accelerating the Commission’s work.

“This is a significant responsibility. Children are the future of the nation, and safeguarding their rights and promoting their development will be both a priority and a challenge,” Patra added.
