New Delhi, August 11 (HS): An Air India flight (AI 2455) travelling from Thiruvananthapuram to Delhi was forced to make an emergency landing in Chennai on Sunday night after the crew suspected a technical malfunction amid adverse weather conditions.

The aircraft took off around 8:00 PM from Thiruvananthapuram and touched down safely in Chennai at approximately 10:35 PM. On board were Congress MP KC Venugopal and several other Members of Parliament, along with other passengers, all of whom escaped a potential disaster due to the crew’s prompt decision-making and professionalism.

According to Venugopal, ensuring air travel safety must be a top priority, and he has urged the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. He emphasised that immediate corrective measures are essential to prevent such situations in the future.

The emergency diversion was initiated when the pilots suspected a technical glitch during turbulent weather. Upon arrival in Chennai, the aircraft landed without incident, ensuring the safety of everyone on board.

This episode underscores the importance of rigorous safety protocols and the presence of a capable, alert crew in averting potential aviation mishaps.
