Cachar (Assam), 10 August (HS): Cachar police have arrested two traffickers and seized a large quantity of banned cough syrup during a special operation at the Dighorkhal toll gate.
Police reported that during a late-night operation, a vehicle (MZ-01AD-0355) was stopped and searched, resulting in the recovery of 56 cartons of triethylamine hydrochloride and codeine phosphate syrup (Winkof-Plus). Each carton contained 150 bottles, totaling 8,400 bottles of 100 milliliters each — a combined volume of 840,000 milliliters.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Lal Chhuanphela and Matthew Zonunmawia, both residents of Aizawl, Mizoram. The estimated market value of the seized consignment is around ₹5 million. Further legal proceedings are underway.
