Tragic Accident in Ramanathapuram: Child Killed as Speaker Falls During Festival Preparations

Chennai, 10 August (H.S.) : A heartbreaking incident occurred in Koraikkulam near Paramakudi, Ramanathapuram district, where a 6-year-old girl named Sugavathi lost her life after a large speaker fell on her during preparations for a temple festival. The tragic event took place when the child was untying a rope near the speakers, which were placed outside the residence of their owner, Veerakumar.

According to reports, the speakers, which were part of the festival setup, were stacked and secured with ropes. While Sugavathi was playing and attempting to untie one of these ropes, a speaker became unstable and toppled, crushing her. The impact caused severe injuries, and despite efforts to save her, the young girl succumbed to her wounds.

Local authorities, including the Paramakudi police, have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the circumstances that led to the accident. Preliminary findings suggest that the speakers may not have been adequately secured, raising concerns about safety protocols during such events. The community is in mourning, with residents expressing shock and grief over the loss of the young life.
