Tinsukia (Assam), 10 August (HS): A tense situation erupted in Lohari Kasari village of Tinsukia district on Sunday over a madrasa building. Local residents demolished the madrasa using a JCB machine.

Since Saturday, various political groups and organisations had been reacting to the issue. On Sunday, members of the Veer Lachit Sena and a large number of villagers gathered at the site. Before they arrived, the madrasa’s imam had already fled.

Villagers alleged that all the documents in the imam’s possession were suspicious and irregular. Upon receiving the information, Tinsukia police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
