Chennai, 10 August (H.S.) : The Tamil Nadu government has decided to maintain the current school entry age of five years. According to B Chandra Mohan, School Education Secretary, the State Education Policy (SEP) aims to create a future-ready, inclusive education system that emphasizes conceptual clarity, practical application, and life skills. The policy focuses on making students future-ready by incorporating essential skills such as digital literacy, financial literacy, and climate literacy into the curriculum.
The curriculum will be redesigned and rationalized to achieve these objectives, and the assessment system will be revamped to check whether these objectives are met. Board exams will be conducted only from Class X onwards, and the 10+2 system will be retained. The assessment reforms will focus on future skills, strong conceptual understanding, problem-solving skills, scientific temper, and life skills.
The policy aims to create a safe, inclusive, and holistic learning environment that promotes social integration and mutual respect among students. With this approach, Tamil Nadu is set to provide quality education to its students, equipping them with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in an ever-changing world.
